Product Description


A polarization maintaining (PM) filter coupler is a micro-optic device that splits or combines light signals while preserving polarization. PM couplers are used in fiber optic communication systems, Raman amplifiers, and other fiber instrument applications. 

PM couplers are available in a variety of coupling ratios, from 1% to 50%, and in 1x2 and 2x2 types. They have central wavelengths at 1310nm, 1550nm, or 1064nm, and can be specified with high accuracy. PM couplers are designed to maintain a high polarization extinction ratio (PER) when light is launched along the fiber's slow axis. Polarized light traveling along the slow axis is forced to travel at a lower velocity than if it had been launched along the fast axis, making it difficult for light to cross-couple from one axis to the other.
